o corpo e a costura nas obras de Sue Monk Kidd e Rosana Paulino

Needlework has always been seen as belonging to the domestic universe of women. Regarding the art field, sewing is put in the position of “minor art”, because it is done exclusively with the hands, with no need of more complex techniques (SIMIONI, 2010). Therefore, needlework relates to women’s work and handwork, both being in a position of inferiority in society. In this paper, I bring to the analysis two artists that use sewing and the female body, more specifically the enslaved black female body, in their works: Sue Monk Kidd, North-American writer, and Rosana Paulino, Brazilian visual artist. There will be analyzed a novel from Kidd, The Invention of Wings (2014), and two artworks from Paulino, Bastidores (1997) and Assentamento (2013).
