Abstract

X-Twitter has become a unique digital forum, the epicenter of discussion on themes marking a tendency in the public sphere. It is a sort of political and social thermometer that can both inform and persuade. This paper poses the following questions: How has X-Twitter changed the way we conceive and publicly present our ideas? Is it possible to do philosophy through this social medium? To deal with these questions we will review, first, its rapid, frenetic evolution which has made it one of the fashionable social media. Secondly, although digital technologies have enabled new forms of discussion, debate, and civic participation, we show some cases where they have served to propagate antagonism and social fragmentation. Lastly, evaluate the potential and limits of X-Twitter for doing philosophy.
