Abstract

The scientific production in question aims to address the reflections brought by the French philosopher Michel Foucaul about the dignity of the human person regarding the punitive system that men were subjected to in the 18th century, bringing to light the main aspects addressed in the work Vigiar e Punish: the birth of prisons. Subsequently, parallels are made with the current Brazilian legislation so that there can be a better understanding regarding the facts described by Foucault.
