The poetic texts by Brazilian writer Gilka Machado and Angolan writer Ana Paula Tavares can be read comparatively in their aspects of imagistic and structural construction. The literary work of the two authors points to the various forms of construction of women's identity and social affirmation. One of the most noticeable forms of presenting the “speaker” in their poems is the way in which sensuality is combined with the use of metaphors linked to Nature or a poetic transfiguration of the use of the senses (taste, smell, touch, sight and hearing) for reporting an eroticism that sometimes borders on a mystical conception of poetic reality. Such use gives an intense plasticity to the images constructed by both, thus contributing to a very thought-provoking reading of the two works. As a theoretical basis for this study, we will use the texts of Nunes (2007), Soares (1993), Cirlot (1984) and Fernandes (2011). We hope, in this way, to increasingly broaden the understanding of the ties that unite the tradition of Brazilian and African female literature written in Portuguese.
